I was lucky enough to be in the KIRO radio studio when Sean De Tore was recording this tune with Celene Ramadan and Ty Foster. As soon as I heard the song I wanted Sean to send me the track. It’s a classic 50’s love song with simple but stirring imagery. Celene (aka Prom Queen) is a beautiful song writer and this tune will be on her new album, slated for 2014.
The first time I heard Childbirth I was immediately thankful. Their 10-track, 17-minute album is catchy, humorous and pointed. It deals with serious and painful issues women deal with day-to-day but does so with hooky guitar riffs, simple and plain lyrics and a wink. I feel like their music should be mandatory listening.
Radio Raheem, first, is a great band name, a reference to the Spike Lee character in Do The Right Thing. Their music is also great: powerful, positive and vigorous. Their funky song “Calling the World†is a dancy, futuristic song in the vein of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Seattle is lucky to have a group like this in our midst.
The answer isn't poetry, but rather language
