Three Songs To The Head vol. 7

Hello and welcome to our latest in the running series, Three Songs To The Head. Here we offer three songs we can’t stop thinking about, three songs we love, three songs we want to share with you. In this installment we feature Wishbeard, The Jesus Rehab and Julia Massey.

Wishbeard, who worked with Erik Blood, on their latest EP, it’s all gonna break, are a fantastical-ride-through-the-universe band. They’re a mix of video game arcades with a pegasus with tribal drums (with maybe even a dash of David Lynch for fun). Their lead single from their new EP, “Strawberry ’79“, shouts to the world, “If you wanna keep me” then there are conditions! What those conditions are, exactly, are up for you to figure out.

The Jesus Rehab are coming out with a new record Feb. 1 and their CD release party is scheduled for The Sunset Tavern in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. Their lead single, “Mind Readers”, claims we’re all slaves of the Lizard King (see their video for the track here). But we at The Monarch wanted to feature yet another strong composition by the Seattle rock duo, their song “Power”. So, enjoy!

It’s both fun and easy to pair any Jesus Rehab post with Julia Massey, for she is the lovely wife of Jesus Rehab lead singer Jared Cortese. The two bands are practically inseparable! In this post, I wanted to highlight an album Julia wrote (inspired by her band mates) called Songs From The Nook, which features 30 songs, all under 94 seconds, and if the tune took more than two hours to craft it was scrapped. The result is so many bits of Julia’s songwriting prowess all put together under one roof. We wanted to highlight the album’s second song “FromBefore“.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU for sending me the link to Strawberry ’79! I obviously already love “Power” but I’m a recent fan of Wishbeard. :)

Another fun fact about “From Before” is that I wrote it for Robb Benson and HIS lovely wife Darla!!

    Long live the Monarch~
