Three Songs To The Head vol. 32

Hello and welcome back to Three Songs to the Head where we share three songs that moved us, three songs we love, three songs we can’t get out of our heads! Today, we’re featuring Sundog, Sisters feat. Sol and The Dusty 45’s feat. Annie Ford and Gus Clark. Enjoy!

Sundog’s “Roadrunner” is a ramped up, vamped up, jam-packed jaunt down Ragtime Keys Lane, turning onto Rumble Bucket Drum Boulevard and ending with donut-down beats around ‘n around the cul-de-sac. It’s the kind of song that picks you up no matter where your spirit level is at. Check the band at their Aug. 14 Tractor Tavern show.

Sisters and Sol are a perfect combination. Mysterious, playful and, above all else, serious about craft. If you had one last show to see before all was said and done, these two would flash before your eyes as a must-book. “Back 2 U” sounds almost like an early Kanye track complete with pastels and insecurities offered artfully (the song was also featured on Monarch favorite, OkayPlayer). We hope to hear more from these as the world continues to turn.

I don’t know much about the Dusty 45’s – I’ve heard of them around town and I imagine them to be a fantastic band. But Annie Ford and Gus Clark blew me away at the Tractor on Monday (for a benefit for Country Dave) so anything featuring them is a bonus. Ford’s voice is like lightening shot through a rag doll and Gus is the composed wizard of finger picking and gravel growling. I could watch these two play for weeks on end.
