Three Songs To The Head vol. 16

Hello and welcome back to Three Songs to the Head where we share three songs that moved us, three songs we love, three songs we can’t get out of our heads! Today, we’re featuring Nate Omdal & Spekulation, Theoretics ft. Shelton Harris, and Goodbye Heart. Enjoy!

Nate Omdal & Spekulation have been making music together in Seattle for years now, but this new project of theirs might be their most fantastic. The two paired up and scored the dance film, Enemy Within (featured in the New York Times), which includes performances from some of the world’s top dancers. The entire album is available to download or stream here, but I wanted to point to the track called “Closing Credits”, a melancholy number with tugging strings and flitting piano.

Theoretics keep doing the damn thing! Their regular releases featuring terrific artists continues this month with their song, “Future is Bright (ft. Shelton Harris)’. The spacey track with heavy, bright kicks and mildly distorted vocals bumps like the thoughtful 90’s hip-hop I fell in love with. Shelton seems like a natural fit over Theoretics sonics, too. I hope to see more from these cats. “A lot of darkness in the game, so we shedding the light,” raps Shelton. Yup.

Goodbye Heart are fast making a name for themselves. The electronic duo with synth-heavy songs create a big, expansive soulful mourning sound – like looking out the window at the giant universe. But there is always a sense of redemption, a sense of hope in their music. Probably because they’re also great people. Check out their sexy new video for “Don’t Slow Down” here:

The answer isn't poetry, but rather language
