When Robb Benson pulled me aside mid-rehearsal to show me a new video he’d shot with Seattle musician Gus Clark, I had no idea what to expect. But five seconds into the piece, I knew it would be incredible. The voice, the guitar picking, the excellent camera and editing. The wonderful Darla in a clown costume! All of it! Here is the video for you to enjoy, as I did!

Robb Benson has been a staple in the Seattle music community for 20 years – he has recorded and released 17 albums, played hundreds of shows, worked with world-famous artists – from Death Cab for Cutie to John Roderick to Alice in Chains – and now he is embarking on his first tour, hitting venues in L.A., Oakland, Portland and Eugene with friend and guitarist Rock Tim DiJulio. The Monarch Review had a chance to chitchat with Robb, here’s what we came up with:Â

I am
What am I?
Bioluminescent eye
That sees by the shine
Of its own light. Lies
Blind me. I am the seventh human sense
And my stepchild,
Consequence;
Scientists can't find me.
Januswise I make us men;
Glamour
Was my image then—
Remind me:
The awful fall up off all fours
From the forest
To the hours…
Tick, Tock: Divine me.
