Sometimes you come across a musician that changes your perspective on life. Oliver Mtukudzi is one of those performers for me. Simply known as “Tuku” to his fans, he created what is known as “Tuku music”, a blend of Southern African traditions, including mbira, mbaqanga, jit, and the traditional drumming styles of the Korekore. Mtukudzi turns 61 this year, and he was in concert at Dimitrious’ Jazz Alley supporting his 61st album.
