Summer Jams with Adam Prairie

The Hoot Hoots have a lot of things planned for the summer – from a July 3rd Birthday Show at Connor Byrne to a set at Timber! I wanted to chat with Hoot Hoots frontman Adam Prairie to see what the band has in store for its fans.

Saturday, July 3rd, is billed as a birthday show? Who’s birthday is it?

It’s Chris our drummer’s birthday on July 3, and it’s Ben our bassist’s B-day on July 8, so we consider it a co-birthday celebration.

Why did you choose the Connor Byrne for the gig?

I had been in touch with Greg Garcia, the booker at the Tractor Tavern, about booking shows in general, and he told me had just recently become involved in booking at the Conor Byrne. Historically, the Conor Byrne has generally not featured loud rock bands like us, but Greg wanted to change that. So it just kinda all came together from that, and also, I saw the Julia Massey album release last fall there, and I just really loved the intimate vibe.

What have The Hoot Hoots been up to lately? What’s in the works in your laboratory?

We’ve been laying low this June ’cause we’ll be on a 10 day tour in the Midwest at the end of July (getting the last details for that locked down right now!). And we’ll also be busy locally with performances at Timber, Gigantic Bicycle Festival, and Synesthesia in Portland. Also, we’re just getting started on making demoes for some new tunes.

Are you planning to debut any new music live this summer – either on the 3rd or at any of the festivals?

Too early to tell on that one yet. I hope so!

Looking back a year from now, what do you hope to remember, musically, from this summer of 2015?

I hope I’ll be amazed that I got to play a show, camp, play bubble football, and go stargazing with so many awesome local musicians in Carnation at Timber. We CAN’T WAIT.
