Art Walk Verse – Yonnas Getahun
The Monarch Review sent writer Yonnas Getahun out to document Thursday’s Art Walk in verse and with photographs. Below is what he found…Â
The travesty becomes the thing
which once was only fancied.
How have you come at this?
To be a Kerouac vision
with Sputnik in your eyes.
I know. We look differently.

The perils adrift at bay
a breaking quarrel
all the deviousness of markets thrill
I plan and falter and often at this
I think about Michel de Montaigne
and the death he often dreamt
so I arrive dead, complicit and effectual
at the velocity of teething

The eternal exchange
the fractured infinity
to remain abstract and golden
and divisible

Leafless when I begin to write you this. The hope has died. Â It is just grief and disaster. Â I am at this place suddenly friendless but not an enemy to myself. Â I have to dig my way out of this. I can hear you laughing now.
After all the debates I have become religious. And, yes, righteous.

Waiting for yesteryear
howlin for your van Nuys eyes
worn in at the heels
drunk, desperate, and dead
Ma is waiting for me
Kicking and screaming
at the graphite sun
