Five Country Haiku – Victoria Jones

Under the sprinkler
A robin stalks an earthworm
I pray for them both

While I write Haiku
A brown wren lights on my toe
Surprised, she takes flight.

Blossom by blossom
A hummingbird sips nectar-
Delphinium blues.

Uninvited guest
To birthday party picnic
Crawls up my pantleg.

Brown pygmy rabbit
Under elderberry tree
Nibbles fallen fruit.

Bio:

Victoria Jones spends her days on the banks of a beautiful creek in a hidden valley where she is lucky enough to be a steward of nature. She helps to protect wildlife, enhance fish habitat and grow organic vegetables by the bushel. She also grows, and prunes heirloom apple trees, peaches, quince and wild apricots. She lives on 400 acres of sage steppe in Eastern Washington on a Wildlife refuge. She is building an off-grid home powered by solar, wind and water, built from the stones gathered on the farm.

What am I?

Bioluminescent eye
That sees by the shine
Of its own light. Lies

Blind me. I am the seventh human sense
And my stepchild,
Consequence;

Scientists can't find me.

Januswise I make us men;
Glamour
Was my image then—

Remind me:

The awful fall up off all fours
From the forest
To the hours…

Tick, Tock: Divine me.
