Three Songs To The Head vol. 28

Hello and welcome back to Three Songs to the Head where we share three songs that moved us, three songs we love, three songs we can’t get out of our heads! Today, we’re featuring Red Heart Alarm, Aaron Mason, and The Dip. Enjoy!

Red Heart Alarm might be the city’s least known blues powerhouse. Their souls are drenched in booze and sadness but are outlined with a thin boarder of light. I’ve been listening to this song – “Soaked Through Matches” – on repeat for the last week or so – it doesn’t hurt that it features Monarch favorite, Julia Massey – but it also has that down-trodden kick that great blues songs shelter. It culminates strong like a bolt of lightening into an old beaten up barn.

Ever want your own theme song? Of course you do! And that’s exactly what Aaron Mason (host of The Grapes of Rad podcast and bassist in Stay Tuned) did for the great Sean De Tore. Mason is a goofy renaissance man: a musician, singer, host with the most, comedian and, as you can see in this video, artist with a child-like sensibility. One of the song’s lines, “More gold hits than a fucking gong” is one of the best lines I’ve ever heard!

The Dip is the latest offering from the city’s burgeoning soul scene and their song, “Don’t Make Me Wait,” is a catchy, big-hearted tune perfect for the blossoming springtime – part Allen Stone, part Down North. The track is the second single release off the band’s April 14th-slated full-length. Check the group out live April 17th and the Tractor Tavern, their homecoming show after a west coast tour.
