Three Songs To The Head vol. 21

Hello and welcome back to Three Songs to the Head where we share three songs that moved us, three songs we love, three songs we can’t get out of our heads! Today, we’re featuring Ahamefule J. Oluo, Catskills and Rik Wright. Enjoy!

The whole city of Seattle is abuzz with Ahamefule J. Oluo’s On The Boards performance of Now I’m Fine, his storytelling/pop orchestra masterpiece. For today only, Aham, who worked with many amazing Seattle musicians, from Evan Flory-Barnes to Okanomodé Soulchilde, is streaming the soundtrack to the performance here. We wanted to highlight our favorite track from the collection, “Mourning Bird.” The song has so much fire and soul it’s a musical volcano. AND THAT AHAM TRUMPET GROWL THOUGH!

Catskills, who went by the moniker Inner Space Man for his last (perfect) album, is a Seattle producer and songwriter with moxie out the synths. His song “You Will Never Walk Alone” is a sweet tribute to love from the traveling musician (word has it he goes back and forth from here to Japan often).

This video was shot at Egan’s Jazz House in Ballard. Rik had been previously unknown to my ears, but when we found out about this intricate, catchy, technically impressive piece, we knew we had to include it in one of these posts.
