City Of Lost Dreams

New York Times bestselling author Magnus Flyte (aka Christina Lynch and Meg Howrey), who wrote City of Lost Dreams, will be reading at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park on Thursday, January 16th at 7pm. So, we thought we should take a moment and ask the author(s) a few questions about their latest novel!

–Jake Uitti, Managing Editor

What is the primary reason for this book series? What was the inspiration behind it?

Playfulness. The series began as a sort of relay writing game we dreamed up where each chapter had to build on the previous—two writers’ idea of a good time. We wanted it to be the kind of book that we’d want to read while on a bumpy flight, a lonely moor, or a particularly dull desert island: something fun, sexy, full of science and history and meant to be devoured in large, unfussy mouthfuls.

What are you looking forward to when coming to Seattle?

Rain. California is beautiful, but we’re longing for some moisture. We’ve heard tales of Dick’s Burgers, but we draw the line at putting cream cheese on a hot dog. And we’re not sure what a geoduck is, or how one eats it.

Where do you hope to visit besides Third Place Books?

We love odd museums, so we’re hoping to have time to visit the Loghouse Museum, and the Center for Wooden Boats.

Have you started on the next novel, or is that, in a way, the furthest thing from your mind?

Magnus is never too far from our minds, and we’re spinning a globe to see where he might have his next adventure.

When you experienced doubt writing these books, what kept you going?

Being able to abruptly end a chapter and hand it off to my co-author—then it became her problem!

How did you know both books were finished?

When we stuck a knife in the center and it came away with no crumbs.

The answer isn't poetry, but rather language
