When I consider how I got into the daunting business of running a women’s health clinic where abortions are often performed, I think of Monty. Her given name was Montgomery, bestowed on her by parents who wanted a son and chose to name their daughter after a great-uncle. But since her peers in kindergarten couldn’t articulate all four syllables, she was Monty from age five on.
