Dancing With Kitten LaRue
Monday, November 25, 2013 12:42 — 0 Comments
Kitten LaRue is a performer and Producer/Artistic Director of the burlesque troupe The Atomic Bombshells. She’s also gorgeous! We had a chance to chat with Kitten about the Seattle scene, what she loves best about performing and where she gets her costuming! Jake Uitti: What is the most exciting part of performing burlesque? Kitten LaRue: For me, the most exciting part of burlesque is the immediate and electric connection you get to have with your audience.  Few art forms allow you to get the instant gratification of a room full of people screaming at the top of their lungs […]
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis World Tour vol. 7 – Andrew Joslyn

I remember an inkling of a faint dream I had last night. One of my favorite moments from the live show of the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis tour is during the performance of the song, “Thrift Shop,” where a huge mass of metallic golden confetti is blown into the air during a climatic part before the bridge. The magical part happens right after this, though: the golden confetti floats and lingers in the air for the next 2-3 songs like golden spinning fireflies. Glittering and strangely meditative. It is always a mystical period of time during the set. This memory […]

One Super Important Question For Spekulation
Thursday, November 21, 2013 13:13 — 0 Comments
I’ve been seeing videos pop up all over Facebook (even one using the remix of a song I play on by my band The Great Um) involving the rapper/producer Spekulation and the UAI dance production, Enemy Within. So, to get some clarification of this cool project, I decided to ask Spek One Super Important Question.
The Monarch Drinks With Bruce Pavitt

By the time we’re cracking open fortune cookies, Bruce Pavitt and I find ourselves talking about Kurt Cobain and the idea of seclusion. That someone like Kurt, beautiful and stirring, at the height of world fame, needed the confidence and compassion of an inner circle of people to talk with. Kurt never seemed to have that—for whatever reason—says Bruce, solemnness to his voice.
Open-Source Living vol. 3 – Jessie Sawyers
Tuesday, November 19, 2013 13:27 — 0 Comments
What a wonderful whirl… My life. Right now: My apartment has been productivity central lately. My roommate and I have yet to get a couch down here in Austin and, as amazing as it is to sprawl across the living room floor for a hearty full-body stretch after our 5-hour dance rehearsals, somehow the floor is less welcoming for 8+ hour computer work sessions. And, well, I can’t tell you the number of unintentional shavasanas I’ve found myself in when trying to do computer work in bed. Bad news for my to-do lists.

The Monarch Drinks With Sir Mix-A-Lot

I sat down with Anthony Ray – better known as the rapper/producer Sir Mix-a-Lot – in a booth in the back of Daniel’s Broiler on the 21st floor of a Hyatt in Bellevue, WA. He’d chosen the place for our interview, a fan of fine steaks. Mix is talkative, with a steady demeanor. He’s lived the gamut from want to have, violence to security. And I can only believe that, given this history, he’s developed a sort of calm when speaking his mind.
One Super Important Question for Ahamefule J. Oluo
Thursday, November 14, 2013 10:59 — 0 Comments
One morning I was cruising Facebook and saw a post from Ahamefule J. Oluo saying, “I just want to say. The new [Industrial Revelation] album comes out next month… We put out one track, people didn’t seem to notice, we will put out another track and it may go unnoticed but it doesn’t change the fact that we are the best band in Seattle and if you disagree, come to a show and then reconsider.â€Â

The answer isn't poetry, but rather language
